Speaker’s Bio: Cyril Meduña
Cyril is the Founder and Managing Partner of Advent-Morro Equity Partners, Puerto Rico’s first and largest private equity firm. With an agnostic approach to industries Advent-Morro’s investment strategy is very much focused on growth equity capital. Over the past 35 years the firm has started or partnered with more than 100 companies most of which have grown to become leaders in Puerto Rico in their respective industries such as healthcare, telecommunications, education, fintech, food distribution and shipping. As of December 31, 2024, Advent-Morro’s Puerto Rico based portfolio companies , exited or still active, generated over $4.5 billion in annual sales and employ over 3,700 people, making a significant contribution to Puerto Rico’s economy.
In 2015, Mr. Meduña lead the effort to form Parallel18, now a world renown tech-company accelerator based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 2018, he co-founded Morro Venture an early-stage venture firm focused primarily on companies graduating from Parallel18 with the goal of deepening the tech-ecosystem on the island, and raised Morro Venture first fund, a $20 million an early stage, Seed and Series A tech-fund.
Prior to his involvement in the private equity, Mr. Meduña was founder of Meduña & Co., Inc., a local investment bank specialized in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. He started his career at the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York and then led the formation and headed Chase’s Investment Bank in Puerto Rico.
Mr. Meduña served, by appointment of the Governor of Puerto Rico, as one of the private sector members of the “Counsel for the Development and Maintenance of Public Policy for Science and Technology”. He is an ex-board member of Parallel 18, and for 6 years served as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Centros Sor Isolina Ferré, a charitable institution based in Ponce. He was a member of the New America Alliance (the “NAA”) for 16 years and chaired the NAA’s pension Fund Committee for 6 years. He is also a founding member of the committee established to raise funds for the restoration of Iglesia San José in Old San Juan, the 2nd oldest church in the Western Hemisphere and selected by the World Monuments Fund for historic preservation. Mr. Meduña is also Honorary Consul for the Republic of Chile in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Island.
He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A from George Washington University. He is married to María Luisa and has three daughters, Catalina, Tatiana, and Victoria.
