Speaker’s Bios:
Jeanelle Alemar-Escabí is a Tax Strategist and Business Consultant with JACE LLC. Jeanelle has been a tax practitioner for more than 18 years. Since 2015 she has assisted more than 70 businesses and investors to relocate their operations to Puerto Rico. She is also an adjunct professor of the Law School at the University of Puerto Rico teaching Business Operations in Puerto Rico. Ms. Alemar -Escabí worked as part of the tax practice group of the law firm Pietrantoni, Mendez & Alvarez LLC from 2005 to 2015. In addition, she served as tax adviser for the Secretary of the Puerto Rico Treasury Department from 2001 to 2004. Her certifications include: Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant affiliated to the AICPA; and Certified Promoter by the Puerto Rico Department of Economic Development and Commerce to promote Puerto Rico.
John Quinn is the founder of Quinn Law Partners. He regularly assists his clients in registering with federal and state regulatory authorities, establishing private pools and investment vehicles, purchasing and selling financial services businesses, complying with applicable federal and state securities and investment advisory laws, and managing risk associated with the financial services industry. John has also successfully represented clients before federal and state courts, the United States Securities & Exchange Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”), state regulatory authorities and FINRA arbitration panels.
As the former Director of the Pennsylvania Securities Commission's Division of Corporation Finance, John and his staff applied federal and state securities laws to ensure that financial services professionals registered in Pennsylvania complied with all applicable regulations. John was also the Chair of the North American Securities Administrators Association's Corporate Accountability Project Group, which regularly issues recommendations to state and federal securities regulators on corporate governance laws and policies.
John graduated magna cum laude from Villanova University in 1994, and graduated with high honors from George Washington University Law School in 1997. John is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Isabel Alcantara is the Founder & Principal Attorney of Alcantara Law, LLC, where she specializes in investment adviser registration and compliance services, U.S. residence through investment [E2 and EB-5], and Regional Center compliance. She is admitted to the Washington, D.C. Bar and speaks English and Spanish.
Isabel's clients are typically small- to mid-sized registered investment advisers and foreign investors. Isabel regularly advises clients on issues related to compliance with the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Securities Act of 1933, the Investment Company Act of 1940 and U.S. laws governing foreign investor visas. The firm serves clients residing in the United States and abroad.
Isabel was previously a compliance analyst at Greenwich Advisor Compliance Solutions and a New Accounts representative at Interactive Brokers Washington, D.C. office. She interned at the Office of Chief Counsel for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration while completing her law degree at St. Thomas University School of Law. Prior to embarking in her legal career, Isabel taught English at schools in Madrid, Spain for almost four years.
Isabel is a native English speaker and fluent in Spanish. She has an Associates of Arts degree in Psychology from Northern Virginia Community College (VA, USA), a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Roberts Wesleyan College (NY, USA), a Master of Arts degree in Bilingual and Multicultural Education from the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (Madrid, Spain), a Master of Arts degree in Literary and Cultural Studies of Spain and Latin America from New York University (Madrid Campus). While enrolled in law school, Isabel received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award for receiving the highest score in a legal persuasion course. She was also selected to participate in the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Institute in 2019.
